True Otaku: The Documentary was produced in 2010 & 2011. During its festival run, True Otaku was exhibited as an official selection at Florida Supercon's 2011 Geek Film Festival and at Phoenix Comicon's 2012 Film Festival. The film is being released here on YouTube in its entirety in three parts.

Part one of the movie introduces viewers to the world of Japanese pop-culture and its American fanbase. Terms like otaku, cosplay, anime, manga, and lolita fashion are defined. Viewers also learn about many of the things one can see and do at a convention. This section of the documentary largely focuses on Otakon, a convention held in Baltimore, Maryland.

LARPing – that is, Live Action Role Playing – is one of those things that once you’re engaged in it, you can quite safely claim epic geek status. There’s an awesome LARP group near me that I’ve been meaning to join and haven’t had the time. This show only urges me to go forth and conquer!
Nerdist Channel have created a rather professional-looking web reality series that closely follows a group of people engaged in a LARP quest. They each have varying experience in LARPing, have characters of differing intelligence and most of all are having so, so much fun.
