"Rufio, played in the 1991 movie "Hook" by noted Filipino actor Dante Basco (Zuko of Avatar: The Last Airbender), is about as mainstream a Filipino character as we're gonna get, haha. My cousin Ish and I are both fans of the movie, so in 2007 he decided to make a screen-accurate Rufio costume. Ish saw many Rufio costumes online, but few of them had the level of quality he sought for; most had only a few fringes, few if any extras like the multiple necklaces or the bracelets and earrings, or just red spraypaint and spiked hair in place of Rufio's impressive tri-hawk. To build his screen accurate costume, Ish had his original VHS copy of the movie on a constant loop, and was taking screengrabs and doing online image research for months as he built the costume. He won 2 separate Halloween contests in 2007 and 2008, and then I borrowed it for 2009 and then again for SDCC '11."
Katsucon was lots of fun! I met wonderful and helpful people. I had malfunctions with this costume. My friend had to glue my dress in the back because it ripped a bit, and I had to go buy nut and bolts for the weapon (the hot glue stick failed)
I’ve been playing a little bit of Star Wars TOR lately. A few of my friends are further along than myself, but I am still amazed at how great the story is from the get go. It really makes you feel as if your character is a major part of the Star Wars lore, and I get sucked into it so easily.
Shanao, also known as Nebulaluben, has so many great cosplays under her belt. She lives with her boyfriend in Spain, who shares the same love for cosplay. She has been featured on Kotaku several times, and in magazines as well. There’s no denying that Shanao looks fantastic as Satele Shan!
The original Left 4 Dead and Left 4 Dead 2 were both a blast. Don’t try and play it alone with AI allies or you’ll blow your brains out. If you can get some of your closest friends to hop in a game with you, it will be some of the most fun you’ve ever had. There’s no current announced plans for a Left 4 Dead 3, but fans are still very hopeful that Valve will eventually release it.
Head to toe full custom all leather suit of armor. The concept set in a medieval inspired fantasy universe. It all started as your every day veg-tanned leather and was heavily wet-molded throughout. Faceplate is removable btw.
Every week, Golden Gate Knights teaches the way of the Jedi with their lightsaber training classes in San Francisco, California. Using LED lightsabers, participants learn how to warm up, do flourishes, master choreography and even practice meditation.
I tried something a little bit different with this one. I like the way it came out, though I could keep tweaking it forever.
Please let me know if this is you or someone I know so I can give proper credit! All of my MegaCon photos are also in this facebook album if you’d like to tag yourself or anyone you recognize.
Costume took about a year to complete working on it off and on. The majority of it was completed in the 4 month interim between AFO 2011 and Chibi-pa 2011.
Materials used include PVC, Fiberglass, Bondo, Foamboard, Craft Foam and much more. The ipod on the side of the chest is hooked up to a speaker in the chest that plays various sounds clips and songs from various Gundam anime. The beam saber is made from a 1/12 scale official replica that was gutted and combined with electronics from a Star Wars FX lightsaber.
I won best in show at Chibi-pa in my first contest with this costume.
Based on a heavily modified 3D Pepkura Model originally provided by "Juice" of the 405th Forums.
