Reddit user fiscal_ reached out on the forums two weeks ago, asking if anyone had contact info for Bungie, the original team behind the Halo series. His young son was a huge Halo fan, but more importantly he was recovering from an intense liver transplant surgery, and fiscal_ wanted to cheer him up with something from his favorite franchise. Bungie delivered.

Bungie sent over a full-size replica of Carter’s helmet from Halo: Reach for fiscal_’s son to keep, along with a t-shirt and a card signed by Bungie staff wishing him well. “My family can’t thank Bungie enough,” fiscal_ wrote. “I know that they have had a huge impact on how well my son has been recovering after his surgery.”

"I had to cut a considerable amount out of this video. Lots of moldmaking, a lot of sculpting, and a ton of sanding. In the end, I think you can follow the general progression. Neither helmet is for sale, both were commissioned by private buyers and have been paid for already.

90% of this video was recorded on a GoPro, with a couple of shots at the end on a Nikon D3100. The files were ENORMOUS and I really don't have a proper editing rig, so don't expect things like this to happen too often!

I am personally of the opinion that the 1991 Disney movie  The Rocketeer is the single best comic book movie ever made, but I've always thought that it was strange the costume never caught on in the cosplay community.  I mean, the Rocketeer combines a helmet even more iconic than a Star Wars Stormtrooper, a jet pack even more fun to look at than Boba Fett's, and a leather jack that makes punching Nazis in the face look good.  What more could you ask for?!!
